Skin Allergy

Skin Allergy can be caused by a variety of factors:

1. Immune System Disorder
2. Medication
3. Infections

when an allergen is responsible for triggering an immune response then it is an allergic skin condition.

1. Atopic Dermatitis(Eczema): Most common in Children. The disease is due to the inheritance of a faulty gene in their skin. It is due to leakiness of skin barrier which causes it to dry out and become prone to irritation and inflammation.
2. Urticaria(HIVES): Inflammation of skin triggered when the immune system releases histamine, this causes. This causes small blood vessels to leak, which leads to swelling in the skin.

Types of Urticaria

1. Acute Urticaria:

a) It occurs after eating a particular food or coming in contact with a particular trigger.

b) An allergy test is helpful

c) It lasts for a few hours/ minutes

2. Chronic Urticaria

a) Rarely caused by specific triggers

b) Allergy test which is not helpful

c) Can last for many months/ years

Hives are not Contagious

3. Angioedema

It is swelling in deep layers of skin. Angioedema many times occurs in soft tissue such as the mouth, genital eyelids.
